Addressing White Privilege in Queer Spaces

at Venus Envy -1598 Barrington Street

Touted as being aligned with inherently radical political stances, many queer spaces unfortunately end up reinforcing oppressive and racist mindsets and ideals by setting up numerous silent expectations for dress, behavior, personal choices, and so much more. This open discussion is intended for white queers and aims to help attendees direct conscious attention to the nuances of our learned biases, how our whiteness informs our queer identities, and the ways in which we are welcomed into and lionized within queer spaces because we are white.
