concrete asylum - "social anxiety" e.p. - download & review

there's been a lot of new tapes coming out in the past few months & I've been taking my time absorbing them & giving them repeated listens, often while I wash dishes in my tiny kitchen.
concrete asylum has a pretty cool aesthetic about them. in a stark contrast to most bands in halifax, they are rather colourful, in fact, both of their tapes come in a rainbow variety of colours, this along with their cartoonish artwork & weird characters helps them stand out a bit.
this tape is a bit... um, louder than their demo? & there's a lot more noise, static & rumbling going on. I almost think the bass exists solely to add that ugly, distorted, muddy sound to it.
although this is titled as a proper "e.p.", I don't see much difference in the quality between this release & their demo from last year. maybe they're faster? regardless, it's all fucking amazing.
I'm sure there's a bunch of bands that they are influenced by & trying to replicate but I prefer to let them stand alone, uniquely in my head as one of the best bands to come out of the city in awhile.
local folks are likely worshiping them already.
